Porcelain Veneers in North York
Veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of your teeth. They can change the colour, shape or length of teeth that whitening alone cannot fix.
Porcelain veneers in North York are thin, custom-made shells that a dentist bonds to the front of your teeth. At Emerald Forest Dental, veneers can cover stains, chips, small gaps or uneven shapes. A small amount of enamel is usually removed first, so veneers are a long-term choice that your dentist will discuss with you carefully.

About porcelain veneers
A veneer is a shell of dental porcelain, often less than a millimetre thick, made in a dental lab to fit one tooth. Once it is bonded in place, it becomes the new front surface of that tooth. Porcelain reflects light much like natural enamel and resists stains from coffee and tea better than most other materials.
To make room for the porcelain, your dentist usually smooths away a thin layer of enamel from the front of the tooth. That enamel does not grow back, so the tooth will always need a veneer or another covering afterward. This is the main reason your dentist will want to talk through your goals, look at other choices and make sure veneers are the right fit before starting.
Veneers work well for teeth that are stained deep inside, slightly chipped, worn short, or a little uneven. They are not a fix for teeth with large cavities, active gum disease, or a bite that puts heavy force on the front teeth. If you grind or clench, your dentist may suggest a night guard to help protect the porcelain. With good care, veneers can last many years, though they may need to be replaced at some point.
Who veneers may suit
- Front teeth with stains that whitening has not lifted
- Small chips or worn edges on your front teeth
- Minor gaps between teeth that you would rather not close with aligners
- Teeth that are uneven in size or shape
- Old front fillings that have darkened over time
Benefits
- Can change colour, shape and length in one treatment
- Porcelain resists everyday stains well
- Each veneer is made to match the teeth around it
- A preview of the planned shape can often be shown before final work
What to expect
- Smile consultationYou and your dentist talk about what you want to change, and your teeth, gums and bite are checked.
- Records and planningPhotos, X-rays and impressions or a scan help plan the shape and shade of each veneer.
- Tooth preparationWith local anaesthetic, a thin layer of enamel is shaped, and temporary veneers may be placed.
- Lab fabricationA dental lab makes your veneers to the agreed shape and shade over the next few weeks.
- Try-in and bondingYour dentist checks the fit and colour with you, then bonds each veneer and adjusts your bite.
Aftercare
- Brush twice a day and floss daily; the edges where veneer meets tooth still need cleaning.
- Avoid biting hard objects like ice, pens or fingernails, which can chip porcelain.
- Wear a night guard if your dentist recommends one for grinding or clenching.
Other options
Teeth whitening, dental bonding or Invisalign may reach your goal with less change to your natural teeth. For teeth that are heavily filled or broken, a dental crown may be the stronger option. Your dentist can explain the trade-offs of each.
Cost and coverage
The fee for veneers depends on how many teeth are treated, the lab work involved and any treatment needed first, with the ODA suggested fee guide as a usual reference. Most plans view veneers as cosmetic, but some may help if a tooth is being restored after damage, so we can send a pre-determination to your insurer. CDCP generally focuses on health needs rather than cosmetic care. LendCare payment plans are available if you would like to pay over time.
Our promise: we confirm your coverage and explain the cost before treatment.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ
Do porcelain veneers look natural?
Porcelain is made in layers that let light pass through much like enamel. Your dentist and the lab choose a shade and shape that suit your face and the teeth beside them. You will see and approve the look before the veneers are bonded.
Does getting veneers hurt?
The tooth shaping is done with local anaesthetic, so most people feel pressure rather than pain. Some teeth feel a little sensitive for a few days afterward. We explain each step and can pause whenever you need.
How long do veneers last?
Many veneers last 10 years or more with good care, but this varies. Grinding, biting hard objects and gum recession can shorten their life. Regular checkups let your dentist spot wear early.
Can veneers be removed later?
Because enamel is usually removed to fit them, the tooth will need some kind of covering for life. A worn veneer can be replaced with a new one. This is why we take time to plan before starting.
Can I whiten veneers if my other teeth get darker?
No, porcelain does not respond to whitening gel. If you want a brighter smile, it is often wise to whiten your natural teeth before your veneer shade is chosen.
How many veneers will I need?
It depends on how many teeth show when you smile and what you want to change. Some people need one veneer to match a single tooth, while others choose several. Your dentist will show you the options.
