About general dentistry
A general dentist is your main point of contact for oral health. Think of it the way you think of a family doctor: someone who sees the full picture, handles most problems directly and knows when to bring in a specialist. Our team of general dentists provides checkups, cleanings with our registered dental hygienists, X-rays, fillings, crowns, bridges and root canal treatment.
Most of general dentistry is about catching small problems early. A cavity found during a routine exam can usually be fixed with a simple filling. The same cavity left for a year or two may reach the nerve and need a root canal or a crown. Regular visits also let your dentist watch for gum disease, worn teeth, cracked fillings and changes in the soft tissues of your mouth.
When you need care outside general dentistry, you do not have to start over. Our clinic includes Dr. Ardeshir Ranjbari, a registered specialist in periodontics, for more complex gum problems. For other needs, your dentist can refer you and share your records so the next office has what it needs.

Cost and coverage
The fee for general dental care depends on what is done at each visit, such as an exam, X-rays, a cleaning or a filling. Many Ontario dentists use the ODA suggested fee guide as a reference, and most workplace insurance plans cover a share of preventive and basic care. Patients with CDCP coverage are welcome to ask how it would work with their visit. We review your estimate with you before treatment, and LendCare payment plans can help with larger bills.
Our promise: we confirm your coverage and explain the cost before treatment.

General Dentistry FAQ
What is the difference between a general dentist and a specialist?
A general dentist provides a wide range of everyday care. A specialist has completed extra years of training in one area, such as gums or root canals, and is registered as a specialist with the RCDSO. At our clinic, Dr. Ranjbari is a registered specialist in periodontics, and our other dentists are general dentists.
How often should I have a checkup?
Many adults come in every six months. If you have gum disease, a high risk of cavities or certain health conditions, your dentist may suggest more frequent visits.
Do I need X-rays every visit?
No. Your dentist decides how often you need X-rays based on your age, risk of cavities and dental history. Many people need bitewing X-rays only every year or two.
Can you fix a broken tooth during a regular visit?
Sometimes. A small chip may be smoothed or bonded the same day. A larger break may need a separate appointment for a filling or crown. Call us if a tooth breaks so we can find a time to see you.
I have not been to a dentist in years. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Many people come back after a long gap. We start with an exam and X-rays, then talk about what we see without judgment and help you plan the next steps.
