About orthodontic treatment
Orthodontics is the part of dentistry that moves teeth into better positions. Gentle, steady pressure over time lets the bone around each root reshape, so a tooth can slowly travel to a new spot. At our clinic, you can choose between three main tools: traditional braces, clear aligners such as Invisalign, and clear removable retainers that hold the result once teeth are in place.
Straighter teeth are about more than looks. Crowded teeth trap plaque in tight corners, which raises the risk of cavities and gum disease. A deep bite, open bite, crossbite or underbite can wear down enamel, strain the jaw joints or make chewing awkward. Fixing how the upper and lower teeth meet can make your mouth easier to clean and more comfortable to use.
Age changes the approach. In children, our dentists watch how the jaws grow and how adult teeth come in, and some problems are easier to guide while growth is still happening. Teens often start once most adult teeth have arrived. Adults can straighten teeth too, as long as the gums and bone are healthy, which is why we check gum health first.
Every plan starts with a consultation. Our dentists examine your teeth, gums and bite, take a panoramic X-ray in our office, and talk with you about goals and daily habits. If 3D imaging is needed, we refer you to a nearby imaging centre. When a case would be better handled by an orthodontist, we tell you so and help arrange a referral.
Signs you may benefit from orthodontics
- Teeth that overlap, twist or crowd together
- Gaps between teeth that bother you
- Upper front teeth that stick out or hide the lower teeth
- Back teeth that do not meet evenly when you bite
- Jaw clicking or uneven wear on the edges of your teeth
- Food that often catches between the same teeth
Benefits
- Braces, clear aligners and Invisalign under one roof
- Teeth that are easier to brush and floss
- A more even bite for chewing
- Clear retainers to help protect your result
What to expect
- Talk about your goalsTell us what bothers you about your teeth or bite, and we listen before suggesting anything.
- Exam and panoramic X-rayOur dentists check your teeth, gums and jaw and take an in-house panoramic X-ray, plus photos and a scan.
- Compare optionsWe explain whether braces, clear aligners or another approach fits your case, including timing and trade-offs.
- Begin treatmentBrackets are placed or your first aligners are fitted, and you leave with clear instructions.
- Hold the resultWhen teeth reach their planned positions, you get clear removable retainers to wear as directed.
Aftercare
- Keep up your regular cleanings and checkups during treatment, since plaque builds up more easily around brackets and under aligners.
- Call us if something breaks, pokes or feels loose rather than waiting for your next visit.
- Wear your retainers as directed once treatment ends, because teeth keep shifting throughout life.
Other options
If you only want to change the look of a few front teeth, dental bonding or porcelain veneers can sometimes improve shape and spacing without moving teeth. These do not fix the bite, so our dentists will explain what each choice can and cannot do.
Cost and coverage
The fee for orthodontic care depends on the type of treatment, how complex your case is and how long it is expected to take. We usually use the ODA suggested fee guide as a reference and give you a written estimate before you start. Many workplace plans have a separate orthodontic benefit with a lifetime maximum, and we direct bill most insurers and can send a pre-determination first. We welcome CDCP patients and can check whether your coverage includes orthodontics. LendCare payment plans can spread the cost into monthly amounts, subject to approval.
Our promise: we confirm your coverage and explain the cost before treatment.

Orthodontic Treatment FAQ
Is there an age limit for straightening teeth?
No. Adults of any age can have orthodontic treatment if their gums and supporting bone are healthy. We check gum health first and treat any gum problems before teeth are moved.
How do I know whether braces or aligners suit me?
It depends on how your teeth need to move, how complex your bite is and how well you can wear removable aligners. After your exam and X-ray, our dentists explain which option fits and why.
When should my child have their bite checked?
We look at your child's bite and jaw growth during regular checkups. If we see crowding or a bite issue developing, we explain whether to watch it or plan treatment.
Are your dentists orthodontists?
No. Orthodontic treatment at our clinic is provided by our dentists, who are general dentists. If your case would be better treated by an orthodontist, we will tell you and help with a referral.
Do you take 3D scans for orthodontic planning?
We take panoramic X-rays and digital records in our office. If your dentist needs a 3D CBCT image, we refer you to a nearby imaging centre and use the results in your plan.
Will I need a retainer afterwards?
Yes. Teeth naturally drift after they are moved. We provide clear removable retainers and explain how often to wear them to help keep your new alignment.
