Invisalign in North York

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to move teeth gradually. You take them out to eat, brush and floss.

Invisalign in North York is a clear aligner treatment that straightens teeth with a series of custom plastic trays. At Emerald Forest Dental, treatment is provided by our dentists, who check whether aligners suit your bite. You wear each set for 20 to 22 hours a day and switch to a new set on the schedule your dentist gives you.

About invisalign

Each Invisalign aligner is a thin, clear tray shaped to move your teeth a tiny amount. When you switch to the next aligner in the series, your teeth shift a little further. Over months, these small moves add up to a straighter smile. Small tooth-coloured bumps, called attachments, are often bonded to some teeth to give the aligners something to push against.

Aligners can treat many cases of crowding, gaps, overbite, underbite and crossbite, but not every case. Some complex bite or jaw problems are better handled with other orthodontic approaches. At your consultation, our dentists examine your teeth and gums, take X-rays and records, and tell you honestly whether aligners are a good fit or whether a referral would serve you better.

The biggest factor in how well Invisalign works is wear time. Aligners only move teeth while they are in your mouth, so they need to be worn most of the day and night. You remove them to eat and drink anything except water, then brush before putting them back in. When treatment ends, a retainer keeps your teeth from drifting back.

Signs aligners may help

  • Crowded or overlapping teeth that are hard to clean
  • Gaps between your teeth
  • Upper teeth that cover too much of your lower teeth
  • Teeth that moved after braces when you were younger
  • A bite where some teeth do not meet properly

Benefits

  • Aligners are clear and hard to notice
  • Removable for meals, brushing and flossing
  • No metal brackets or wires
  • A digital plan shows the planned tooth movement before you start

Aftercare

  • Wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day unless your dentist tells you otherwise.
  • Brush your teeth before putting aligners back in, and rinse the aligners in cool water.
  • Keep your aligners in their case when they are out of your mouth so they are not lost or damaged.

Other options

Traditional braces may be a better choice for some complex cases or for people who would find it hard to wear aligners full time. For small cosmetic changes, bonding or veneers can sometimes change how teeth look without moving them.

Cost and coverage

The cost of Invisalign depends on how complex your case is, how long it is expected to take and how many aligners you need. The ODA suggested fee guide is usually used as a reference, and you get a full estimate before you commit. Many workplace plans include orthodontic coverage with a separate lifetime limit, and we can send a pre-determination to your insurer. Ask us about CDCP for your situation. LendCare payment plans let you pay monthly.

Our promise: we confirm your coverage and explain the cost before treatment.

Invisalign FAQ

Does Invisalign hurt?

Most people feel pressure or tightness for a day or two after switching to a new aligner. That is a sign the aligner is working. It usually fades quickly, and you can talk to us if it does not.

Can I eat with my aligners in?

No. Take them out for all food and any drink other than plain water. Eating with aligners in can trap food against your teeth and can crack the plastic.

How often will I visit the office?

Most people come in every several weeks so we can check progress. Your dentist sets a schedule that fits your case.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days. Your tongue usually adjusts quickly. Talking and reading aloud help.

Who provides Invisalign at your clinic?

Invisalign treatment is provided by our dentists, who are general dentists. If your case would be better treated by an orthodontist, we will tell you and help with a referral.

Do I need a retainer after Invisalign?

Yes. Teeth tend to shift back after any orthodontic treatment. A retainer, worn as your dentist directs, helps keep your new smile in place.
