Denture Repairs and Relines in North York

A cracked base, a missing tooth or a denture that keeps slipping can make every meal frustrating. Many of these problems can be fixed without starting over.

Denture repairs and relines in North York at Emerald Forest Dental restore a broken denture or refit one that has become loose. A repair fixes cracks, fractures or lost teeth. A reline adds new material to the inside so the denture matches the current shape of your gums. Your dentist checks your mouth first.

About denture repairs and relines

Dentures are made to fit your gums on the day they are made, but your mouth keeps changing. After teeth are lost, the bone under your gums slowly shrinks. A denture that once fit snugly can start to rock, rub or trap food. A reline reshapes the fitting surface to match your gums again, which can improve comfort and grip.

There are two main kinds of reline. A hard reline uses a firm acrylic, usually processed in a dental lab, and lasts longer. A soft reline uses a cushioning material that can help people with thin or tender gums, though it needs replacing more often. A temporary tissue conditioner may be used for a short time to let sore gums recover before a final reline.

Repairs cover breaks such as a cracked base, a snapped partial clasp or a tooth that has popped off. Please do not glue a denture at home. Household glues can be harmful and often make a proper repair harder. Bring all the broken pieces with you, and your dentist will check whether the denture can be fixed or whether a new one would serve you better. Many repairs can be done here at the clinic, often on the same day.

Signs your denture needs attention

  • Your denture feels loose or moves when you talk or chew
  • You rely on more and more adhesive to keep it in place
  • There is a crack, chip or break in the base
  • A tooth has come off or a partial clasp has broken
  • Your gums are sore, red or have new pressure spots

Benefits

  • Often faster and less costly than a new denture
  • Improves grip and comfort when chewing
  • Helps reduce sore spots caused by a poor fit
  • Lets your dentist check your gums and soft tissues

What to expect

  1. Check the denture and your mouthYour dentist looks at the damage or loose fit and examines your gums for sore areas.
  2. Decide on repair, reline or remakeWe explain whether a fix will work well or whether a new denture is the better choice.
  3. Take an impression if reliningImpression material is placed inside your denture to capture the current shape of your gums.
  4. Repair or relineThe denture is repaired or the new lining material is added and finished.
  5. Final fittingWe try the denture in, adjust any pressure spots and check your bite.

Aftercare

  • Tell us about any new sore spots in the first week so we can smooth them before they turn into ulcers.
  • Clean soft relines gently with a soft brush and non-abrasive cleaner, as they can stain and wear faster.
  • Store your denture in water or a soaking solution when it is out of your mouth so it keeps its shape.

Other options

If your denture is very old, worn down or has been relined several times, a new denture may give a better result. For people who struggle with a loose lower denture, implant-supported dentures can add stability. Your dentist will help you weigh these options.

Cost and coverage

The fee for a repair or reline depends on the type of damage, the material used and whether lab work is needed. Fees are based on the ODA suggested fee guide, and many insurance plans pay part of the cost of relines and repairs, often with limits on how frequently. If you have CDCP coverage, ask us how it may apply. We will give you an estimate first, and LendCare payment plans can help if you need them.

Our promise: we confirm your coverage and explain the cost before treatment.

Denture Repairs and Relines FAQ

How often should a denture be relined?

Many dentures need a reline every couple of years, but it depends on how quickly your gums change. Your dentist will check the fit at your regular visits and let you know when a reline makes sense.

Can I fix my broken denture with glue from the store?

We advise against it. Home glues can irritate your mouth, may contain harmful chemicals and can throw off the fit. They can also make a proper lab repair harder. Bring the pieces in and let us take a look.

Will I be without my denture during a reline?

It depends on the type of reline and whether a lab is involved. Some relines can be done during a visit, while lab relines may take longer. We will tell you the timing ahead so you can plan.

Is a soft reline right for me?

A soft reline can help if your gums are thin, tender or have sharp bony areas. It does not last as long as a hard reline and may need replacing sooner. Your dentist will recommend the type that fits your mouth.

Why does my denture hurt even though it is new?

New dentures often need a few small adjustments as they settle. Pressure spots are common in the first weeks. Call us rather than waiting, as a quick adjustment can make a big difference to your comfort.
